What we collect
mesa collects the minimum data necessary to provide the app's functionality:
- Display name — from your Google or Apple sign-in, used to identify you within your household.
- User ID — an opaque identifier from your sign-in provider, used to authenticate API requests.
- Photos — when you use the "What's in your fridge?" feature, photos are sent to our server for AI analysis and are not stored after processing.
What we don't collect
We do not collect your email address, phone number, location, contacts, or browsing history. We do not use advertising identifiers or track you across apps.
How your data is stored
Your recipes, meal plans, grocery lists, and household data are stored in Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) under your own Apple ID. This data is not accessible to us. It syncs between your devices the same way other iCloud data does.
AI features
When you use mesa ai, your household preferences, dietary needs, and recent meal history are sent to Anthropic's Claude API for recipe suggestions. No personal identifiers (names, emails, account info) are included in these requests.
Third-party services
- Apple CloudKit — household data sync (Apple's infrastructure, governed by Apple's privacy policy)
- Google Sign-In — authentication only (name and user ID)
- Anthropic Claude API — AI recipe generation (no personal identifiers sent)
Data deletion
You can delete your account and all associated data from Settings within the app. This removes your data from our servers, CloudKit, and your device.
